What is Trusted Telecom Approval in India?



TSPs can provide their services only if the devices they are using are obtained from trusted sources i.e. the device they are using must be recognized by the government of India.


On June 15, 2021, the Government Of India launched its portal namely www.trustedtelecom.gov and the National Security direction on Telecommunication sector has been launched. And according TSPs now is required to take approval from Trusted Telecom Approval before providing of thor services.


Telecom portal contains list of trusted vendors. A TSP can ente name of the vendor and the product they want to obtain for their services usage. The portal will then compare the trusted vendor's name with the entered details and if details matched then only TSP can go ahead and obtain the necessary hardware. 


Therefore, if you are a telecom service provider you need to make sure that your devices are from a trusted source before you can use those devices to provide your services.


How is the Vendor added to the portal for Trusted Telecom in India


There are two ways through which vendor can be added to the trusted vendor and product  list-


  • Firstly after request of TSP to add vendor to the list. The portal however may do so but only after thorough assessment of the vendor and the source.

  • Secondly after the vendor's request, the vendor can be added to the list of trusted vendors. After becoming a trusted vendor you will be given access to the portal like TSP. 


Does the Trusted Telecom in India directly impact the present trusted ist?


Currently the government of India is not replacing the current added trusted list. Therefore the present list of trusted telecoms in India has not been impacted.


Who decides which vendor and product to add to the list of Trusted telecom in India?


The National Cyber security Coordinator (NCSC) is the designated authority that decides whether to add the telecom sector in a trusted vendor list or not. The NCSC further takes the approval of the National security committee of Telecom (NSCT) into account.

Following are the documents that are required for Trusted Telecom approval-


  • Request from TSp is required.

  • Details and specifications of the product

  • Company charter documents

  • Company authorized person documents
